Insurance
Whether acupuncture treatment is covered by insurance depends on the terms of your particular insurance policy, which should be described in your plan booklet or other insurance documents. Because insurance coverage for acupuncture is generally quite limited at this time, Kay does not participate in any preferred provider or network insurance organizations.
To the extent your insurance covers acupuncture, her services would be covered as an out of network provider. As such, the insurance company may not claim to lower the fee charged or the patient's responsibility for that fee. The Family Acupuncture Center will not file insurance claims or agree to receive payment directly from the insurance company on your behalf. You will, however, be provided with documentation designed to be sufficient to file with a claim for insurance reimbursement. Therefore, if you are planning to use insurance, you will pay in full at the time of your appointment and seek reimbursement directly from your insurance carrier.
A quick note about likely coverage. Information provided to you over the phone about your insurance coverage is highly unreliable and not legally binding upon the insurance company. The written documents regarding your benefits are the only reliable source of information regarding your coverage. Sometimes acupuncture services are referenced specifically, sometimes not. When in doubt, file a claim with your insurance company. Many patients have been surprised to find at least some level of insurance coverage where they thought there was none.

Medicare and Medicaid
At this time, acupuncture is not covered by Medicare, except in extremely limited circumstances, not applicable at the Family Acupuncture Center. Some Medicare patients might have secondary insurance coverage for acupuncture. These patients must first submit their claim for acupuncture treatment to Medicare, have it denied and then submit their claim to their insurance company for direct reimbursement. There is no Medicaid coverage for acupuncture in Maryland.
Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel an appointment, please do so at least 24 hours in advance. Cancellation may be done either by phone or e-mail. PLEASE NOTE: Except in cases of illness or emergencies, any late cancellations or failures to arrive for a scheduled appointment will result in a charge of the full fee currently in effect for that appointment. Changes in personal schedules, even if unexpected, will not be considered an emergency. Arrivals of more than 15 minutes past the scheduled time of the appointment will be considered a failure to arrive, unless Kay agrees to provide same day treatment. Kay reserves the right to refuse to offer continued treatment to any patient who cancels within 24 hours (non-emergency), arrives late, or fails to arrive. We all run into unexpected scheduling issues from time to time, and Kay is generally very understanding. Habitual incursions into her schedule are really just a matter of a lack of respect and professional courtesy that negatively impact the healing relationship.
